Monasteries of St. Anthony and St. Paul’s are the oldest monasteries in Christianity. Its origins
can be traced back to the 4th century. These two monasteries are considered the
most sacred site of the Coptic Church in Egypt.
The Monastery of Saint Anthony
is a Coptic Orthodox monastery in an oasis in the Egyptian desert, founded in
361 AD by the followers of Saint Anthony.
The monastery is
one of the most famous in Egypt. Vineyards and palm groves are lovingly laid
out here. The heart of the complex is the Apostolic Church with 12 domes. The
grotto of St. Anthony is located outside the monastery and can be reached by a
steep path. We continue our exploration tour, driving around the mountain
range. On the way to St. Paul’s Monastery, we will stop at a good restaurant to
relax and have a delicious lunch.
The monastery of St. Paul was built by hermits in the 4th century. Saint Paul
lived alone with God in a cave for 90 years.
After sightseeing, we return to Hurghada.

Before you reach the St. Antonius monastery, cross the heart of the desert. The hermit Antonius lived here in a cave on a 680 meter high mountain more than 1,600 years ago. A staircase with about 1,000 steps leads you up to the cave. There you can admire the ancient writings and drawings of Antonius and enjoy the fantastic view of the surrounding mountains, the desert and the sea.
After the visit of St Antoine we take lunch in a local restaurant at Zafarana rest house
After lunch we continue through the rough valley to the St. Paul monastery. The monastery was built over the cave of St. Paul, a Christian hermit who lived in the 4th century AD.
In the end of the day after the visits our tour guide will bring you back to your hotel.
